  2. Kairosoft (カイロソフト - Kairo sofuto) is a Japanese video game developer located in Tokyo, Japan that has created a number of simulation games for cell phones and PCs. Founded in 1996, the company has developed a number of mobile games for the Japanese market and has found great success in porting them to the modern iOS and Android.
  3. /r/Kairosoft is a subreddit for Android and iOS games made by Kairosoft. Unofficial Subreddit, this sub is not moderated by any Kairosoft officials. By fans, for fans.

Ever since i first played Game Dev Story on Android I have been a fan of the games developed and published by Kairosoft. They are a Japanese company based in Tokyo, so not all of their games have been localized to English, but new ones are still being translated. Many of their games are ports from DoCoMo phones, so the interface might not look like it was made for Android and the controls might not be for everyone. You can find a bunch of their games on both the Play store and App store, though most have been published for Android.

The games themselves are management simulators in the vein of Sim Hospital or any of the old Sim Games and burrow a lot of elements from one another. Some of their games are almost cutout copies, but with a different theme attached, and there’s a lot of themes. You can find simulators of anything from managing a restaurant to a football team, and they each play differently and the pixel based graphics works really well on phones and tablets. I probably wouldn’t enjoy their games as much on PC, but that’s fine.

There’s an active subreddit dedicated to their games, where you can find news, strategies and meet other people who are interested in the games. There’s also a wiki with information on all of their games, as well as the untranslated ones. If you know your Japanese you’re lucky, as you can play any of their non-localized games that have also been released Android and iPhones.

Most of their games are free from in-app purchases, but requires a one time payment to play of about 4-5 dollars. This might seem a lot for a phone game, but you’re sure to get many hours of entertainment. I’ll list my favorite and recommended Kairosoft games, as there can be a huge difference in how much content you get. Game Dev Story is the most popular and reminds a lot of Game Dev Tycoon, which was equally popular in its right.

  • Biz Builder Delux gets you most for your buck. It is almost 3 games in one, where you get to manage a games store, a clothes store and a fast food restaurant and many more.
  • Oh!Edo Towns lets you build a manage an old Japanese rural town and grow it into a sprawling city. All the houses look really nice and watching your town expand is a very rewarding feeling.
  • Dungeon Village plays a bit different than the other Kairosoft titles, and feels more like an RPG. You build and run a village where heroes and adventurers stay to buy gear and sleep at the inn, just like in any jRPG.

If you’re a fan of simulation and management games you’ll definitely enjoy these games and provide you with hours of fun. They are great to open up and play if you need to waste some time while waiting. You can save at any time you want, so don’t worry about losing progress. A single game can last you up to 4-5 hours, or maybe even more if you replay the game in plus mode, which most of the games allow.

You can find all their games available for Android here and for iPhone here. I’ll stay away from the free ones, as they have in-app purchases which sorta ruins the experience and will cost you a lot more money, while not providing you with more features.
